I have just returned from a short stay at Midlands Saddle & Trout. The Midlands is ideal for the traveler looking to relax in the countryside, explore the Midlands Meander which is at the heart of KwaZulu-Natal and offers visitors hospitality in truly beautiful surroundings, revitalizing outdoor activities, adventure sports, historic landmarks, and best of all retail therapy.
In our family we find any excuse to go on holiday. This time we decided to have a short getaway for my sister’s 21st Birthday Celebration. We chose Midland Saddle & Trout as we were looking for a spot to stay that was midway between Durban and Johannesburg. This was our third yearly visit to the resort. Midlands Saddle and Trout is a 3 star establishment boasting fantastic views of the countryside which makes you forget about the hustle and bustle of city life and settle down and relax.
We arrived early afternoon for check in and were handled efficiently by the staff. We had booked two adjacent rooms, which has inter-leading doors which made it fantastic for moving around between units as it was self catering and perfect for larger families.
The units have been recently refurbished and it was lovely to find a Jacuzzi in one our bathrooms. Each unit comes with fully fitted kitchen, lounge and dining area. I loved the spacious bedrooms with wall heaters.
The resort has a host of activities planned for each of the days, and there are animals, a swimming pool, trout fishing, volleyball, tennis and La Vita Spa to mention a few. What I loved most is the warm and friendly nature of all the staff.
We took a drive into the midlands meander and spotted Chocolate heaven on Nottingham road and decided to warm ourselves up at their cosy and quaint establishment. I have to say, the name of the store is indeed apt. As I walked into store, my eyes feasted on the variety of chocolates, all made by the chocolatier on the premises.
The chocolates are made from the finest ingredients. We decided to try out the original chocolate Dippingz® Experience, which consists of a fondue of chocolate, together with a variety of dippingz to choose from. I actually lost count of how many dips I made, but let me mention a few that i tried (variety of nuts, chips, strawberries, dried fruit, biltong, sour worms). It’s a Uniquely decadent experience and a must try if you are in the area.
I hope you enjoyed reading about my Midlands experience. Go relax in the countryside. There is something there for everyone.
